Skye and I had a vision to make premium red wine in the Clare Valley with the focus on Shiraz. We spent two years planning and searching for the right vineyard and we knew we had found our perfect spot with a high set dry grown vineyard planted in 1998 in the Skilly Hills set at 480m. In January 2014 our family embarked on our new focus to produce our first premium 2014 Thomas Block Shiraz and in August 2016 we opened our Cellar Door.
In growing and producing our first wines, we became part of the 4th Generation to farm in the Clare Valley after my Grandfather and Great Grandfather got the ball rolling in 1936 to breed Angus Beef Cattle.
The focus for our wines is to produce premium wine from single vineyard sites in the Clare Valley. Our main priority is our dry grown Shiraz vineyard where I have 100% control from vineyard to bottle, to produce wines which have high concentration of flavour and colour, that highlight the unique characteristics of our vineyard. I have also been keen to pull fruit from other interesting vineyards in the region that have the ability to show individual character, region and quality and capture this in the wines we produce. Other varieties include Malbec, Mataro, Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon. Over the next few years we are planning to expand our own vineyard to include Malbec, Mataro and Sangiovese to ensure that we can maintain the quality of the fruit we use to make our wines.
