Description
Joseph Robert Sussex Hackett (1911 – 1998) – ” The Sussex Squire ” was my grandfather who lived his life on the land in the Clare Valley where for over 60 years he bred award winning Angus Beef Cattle. He was a man proud of his own grandfather who left Sussex County (UK) in the 1850s to embark on a new life in Australia and adventure to achieve award winning excellence in their own endeavours.
The JRS Barrel Selection wines represent our best of the best from our single vineyard dry grown vineyards. From selected vintages I choose selected barrels which show something special where the intensity of the fruit and the new oak provide a combination of intensity and balance.
JRS Barrel Selected Grenache 2018
A Single Vineyard in Armagh of dry grown Grenache that produces some exceptional fruit from the dry grown low yielding vines. Handpicked and left on skins in a 1 ton open fermenter for 10 days and then basket pressed gently to reduce negative seed tannin. In 2018 yields were very small and we only produced 1 barrel, this small batch was aged in new French oak barrel for 22 months. A bigger heavier style of jammy Grenache that has been given time in barrel to develop wonderful complexity and depth.
