The Mataro from a 10yr old vineyard situated in the Armagh region on a northern slope. A milder vintage saw the fruit ripen slowly with lovely elegant fruit showing perfumed aromatics of dark fruits of blackberry, blueberry and plum with floral notes. Aged in 3rd and 4rd use French oak for 14 months to add a layer of subtle complexity with barrel aging with lifted fruit characters. A change of direction with a lighter and more elegant version of this wine due to a mild vintage and a different vineyard that produced an elegant wine which will develop further with bottle age. The 2020 vintage also saw limited Shiraz produced so no Shiraz Mataro blend and therefore more Mataro produced so hence a price reduction to match both style and volume of production.
Those that prefer a bigger and heavier style Mataro should look at a new wine that I have developed- 2020 Old Vine Mataro produced from 30-40yr old vines coming out November 2021.
