Description
The Prancing Pony, name came from the polo match that my Grandfather would host on his Sevenhill property annually in the early 1960s. The local farm horses would become prancing ponies on the day and was depicted in a phot on his office wall that I would look at when I was a child. The horses were beautifully preened for competition, with their manes roached and tails braided so that there is no danger of being tangled in the mallet.
Like a prancing pony this Clare Valley Riesling is elegant and zesty. The grapes were sourced from a single vineyard in the cooler sub region of the Polish Hill River in the Clare Valley. A wet spring and mild growing temperatures resulted in a slower ripening period to produce a lovely balanced wine with lifted lime and grapefruit and slate characters all beautifully balanced by bright acidity to finish. The 2022 Vintage for Riesling in the Clare Valley has been marked down as one of the best for the last decade.
